Considering all your options and taking your time is important here. wow… it’s pricey! i have done some research into this and serviced apartments do not get much better price-wise than mentioned above… are there any ‘better value’ rent areas?
What conditions are you looking for? A balance between which 2 factors?
The information here is only for high earning individual. Not everyone is in a managerial position and the average salary in Singapore is usually around $3500 – $4000, and hence the comfortable accommodation mentioned here is impossible for most. Please do not leave out the lower income group from the discussion.
Housing in Singapore is expensive to be sure, but the island is small enough that you can rent rooms in places that are outside of the main business/shopping areas. I’m talking about home-owners renting out their flats. The rent will be cheaper but the locations are less sexy/convenient. Ultimately, as long as there are MRT stations closeby, you should be good to go. Rents in these suburbs could go as low as 2000 but don’t expect a pool or room service.
I also heard from an associate(I have not verified it yet) that some serviced-apartment companies in Singapore have last minute deals that you’ll only find out if you call them directly. There is usually a one month minimum but these last minute deals may be better than what you’d get from a hotel.
Short term serviced accommodation indeed is costly in prime central location. Serviced studio outside central location may find options below $4000 depends on distance & facility. Alternative is hotel or home-share services.
Best if you can prepare to stay in Singapore at least 1 years or ideally 2 years to find reasonable cosy rental – near accessible mrt stations.
There are also spacious landed houses for rental with enough rooms for a large family expatriated to Singapore for a important role. Rental would depend on no of rooms, locations and privacy, conveniences etc. These are rare gems in land scarce Singapore.
